(a) Objective: High-Impact Practices (HIPs) are forms of experiential learning that prepare students for success by integrating academic learning and practical experience. HIPs include experiences such as internships, undergraduate research, service-learning, collaborative learning, study abroad, and capstone courses and experiences. Research shows HIPs have a significant, positive impact on student learning and success, equipping students with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world. HIPs typically contain essential elements that create a high-impact learning environment for students and promote their success. (b) Data/Methods: N/A. (c) Results: In this Thematic Panel Session, presenters will discuss how to structure high-quality experiential learning opportunities into undergraduate criminology courses within the curriculum. The panel will share four unique papers/presentations focused on (1) introducing experiential education, and what makes these experiences high-impact practices (HIPs); (2) strategies for creating high-quality internships and undergraduate research experiences within the curriculum; (3) using taxonomies as a professional development tool and foster fidelity in creation and implementation; and (4) the importance and value of critical reflection for student learning and engagement. (d) Conclusions/Implications: Attendees will gain a comprehensive understanding of how to effectively incorporate high-quality HIPs into their courses to enhance student learning and success.
