Session Submission Type: Complete Thematic Panel
This interdisciplinary panel will address how policies across government, schools, service providers, and the criminal legal system impact Deaf people. Featured presentations discuss how government services and policies are ill-equipped to meet the needs of the Deaf community; child maltreatment of Deaf children and adolescents and barriers to services; how the failure to properly implement ADA standards negatively impact Deaf students; the intersection of discrimination against Deaf people seeking work and past criminal history; and implications of recent reform competency to stand trial efforts competency on Deaf defendants.
