Session Submission Type: Complete Thematic Panel
This panel highlights innovative research being done by the Victimology and Victim Studies Research Lab (VVSRL) at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. First, this panel will review trends in sexual misconduct reporting and service provision from institutions of higher education before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Second, survey responses from a national sample of women will be reviewed to assess the impact of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and prior victimization on rape myth acceptance. Third, a gendered analysis of sexual victimization and help-seeking behaviors is discussed to identify potential differences among a national sample of men and women that could inform response efforts in these areas. Fourth, the impact of ACEs on incarceration are explored for cisgender and transgender individuals to identify potential vulnerabilities and implications for addressing social inequities. Finally, this panel will examine data from a national sample of young, non-college educated women to assess the role of ACEs and prior victimization in the development of constrained behaviors in response to concern over crime.
