Session Submission Type: Complete Thematic Panel
Local jurisdictions increasingly rely on pretrial services agencies to supervise defendants who are awaiting case resolution. Despite the rapid growth of pretrial supervision, the field lacks a robust evidence base on effective pretrial supervision practices. In this panel, we describe the development, implementation, and evaluation of Intentional Pretrial Supervision. Through a multi-site randomized controlled trial, our goal is to produce rigorous evidence on a new approach for advancing pretrial success. This panel reviews 1) the development and manualization of Intentional Pretrial Supervision; 2) the development of multi-site protocols through a review of local policies and practices; 3) the engagement of people with lived experience in the development, refinement, and outcomes evaluation of the intervention; 4) the implementation of a multi-site virtual training for pretrial supervision officers; and 5) the development, deployment, and tracking of multi-site randomization protocols across 10 counties. Our approaches may help guide researchers and agencies looking to develop and implement evidence-based pretrial practices.
