Funding shortages and excessive caseloads are the most important policy issues in indigent defense. Studies of the impact of those two phenomena are few and far between. The GIDEON project exploits a massive injection of new resources into indigent defense systems in New York to evaluate whether and to what extent they make the difference that advocates expect. This panel will discuss preliminary findings from the project.
