Session Submission Type: Roundtable Sessions
According to a recent study on Texas public defense, the number of attorneys taking indigent defense cases has decreased about 27% since 2014. Additionally, the proportion of overburdened attorneys, particularly in rural counties, has grown. Texas is experiencing an attorney availability crisis, but this problem is not unique to Texas. In addition to staff from the Texas Indigent Defense Commission, representatives from other states will join the roundtable to discuss the challenges and solutions throughout the country to help build the pipeline of indigent defense attorneys.
