Session Submission Type: Complete Thematic Panel
This panel includes five papers covering the topic of school discipline and security. While much of this research has focused on trends and collateral consequences, in particular negative outcomes associated with exclusionary discipline and security mechanisms, there is less known about the perspectives of those directly impacted by these common school practices. We will discuss student, teacher, and parent perspectives and experiences with suspensions and safety tactics in U.S. schools.
