Rurality can uniquely impact various aspects of policing and social control, as well as the ways in which researchers are able to access and conduct research in such settings. This panel includes recent research on policing and social control in various rural American communities. Specifically, presenters will discuss research on 1) interagency relationships among police departments in rural Pennsylvania; 2) rural social control of reproductive justice, healthcare, and service provision; and 3) the unique challenges and rewards of conducting research in rural regions of Oklahoma and Southwest Missouri. Each presenter will discuss data, methods, results, and the practical and theoretical implications of their research.
