Session Submission Type: Complete Thematic Panel
In this panel we bring together scholars from the Division on People of Color and Crime, the Division of Feminist Criminology, and the Division of Queer Criminology in a co-sponsored session. Our goal is to listen to and discuss issues that criminologists are experiencing or may soon experience when they use critical approaches in their research, teaching, and advocacy work. The landscape of higher education and criminological research is rapidly shifting in a way that can leave many criminologists unsure of how to do the work they find most meaningful, valid, and productive. Panelists will respond to audience members’ questions and concerns. We expect to discuss topics such as how junior faculty should navigate current expectations and policies as they seek promotion, how to apply critical ideas in the classroom, how to advocate for marginalized groups in the justice system, and strategies for seeking funding, among others.
