Session Submission Summary

Roundtable: Teaching About Structural Oppression Under A Politically Hostile Administration

Fri, Nov 14, 12:30 to 1:50pm, Maple - Second Floor

Session Submission Type: Roundtable Sessions

Abstract/Description

Some of the current authors of Class, Race, Gender & Crime (6th ed) planned to have an author meets critic session but feel it is important to join with others to have a conversation beyond our book. This session is for anyone teaching about structural oppression that is deepening even as the President tries to erase discussion of it and gaslight the country about civil rights. We hope to focus the session on helpful tips and best practices for teaching and the classroom. Topics would include selection of texts and supplemental readings, productive ideas for introducing and moderating class discussion, assignments and rubrics, and resources and strategies to help distressed students.
