Roundtable: DFC Presents - Best Practices for Criminology and Criminal Justice Internships

Wed, Nov 12, 2:00 to 3:20pm, Farragut North - M3

Session Submission Type: Roundtable Sessions

Abstract/Description

Criminology and criminal justice internships enable students to apply their collective academic knowledge in real world settings, while benefiting from the guidance and mentorship provided by professionals in their chosen career path. For students less certain about their future directions, internships serve as a mechanism of exploration, allowing students to survey the field while exploring various career options. In this roundtable, we will discuss best practices for internships that we’ve developed in our respective criminology and criminal justice programs. Specifically, we will consider how to: create partnerships for internship placements, support students’ goals through internships, and develop assignments to assess and showcase student learning. This roundtable conversation will provide us with a way to come together to share and build on our knowledge and experience with internships.
