The California Racial Justice Act provides a groundbreaking opportunity to leverage scientific measurement to remediate racial disparities in the criminal legal process. However, this opportunity presents unique challenges that require coordination between practitioners, academics, and data experts. This panel will discuss these challenges thus far and recent approaches the panelists are taking to solve these issues. These efforts span a large range of the implementation gap, including developing methodological guidance through academic publication; democratizing access and pushing for transparency regarding necessary data; creating technology-based solutions to practitioner gaps; and providing educational opportunities for practitioners. Finally, the panel will explore current issues at the nexus between the leading edge of implementation and academic research.
