Fri, Nov 14, 2:00 to 3:20pm, Maple - Second Floor

Session Submission Type: Roundtable Sessions

Abstract/Description

This roundtable session will engage in critical discussions about several important issues facing American policing. Panelists will reflect on past successes in police reform led by figures like O.W. Wilson while also considering what the future of policing may entail. Each panelist will address underlying matters, such as the push for more evidence-based practices, the impact of police leadership and management, incidents of civil unrest in higher education, and how we prepare future police officers in college classrooms. They will also examine the impact current policing has on the courts and police legitimacy. Additionally, panelists will explore whether there is a need for reforms in policing based on the lessons learned from our past.
