The paper examines the disparity between the modernist architect’s conception of the workers’ club as a new type of building and the widespread criticism such projects elicited when actually carried out. If modernist architecture was essentially a myth-making enterprise, the architecture of workers’ clubs represented the most glaring failure to live up to the myth.
