Houses that Become One with the Street: Ivan Leonidov’s Workers' Clubs

Sat, November 19, 8:00 to 9:45am, Wardman DC Marriott, Floor: Mezzanine, Johnson

Abstract

The paper examines Ivan Leonidov’s unrealized projects of the 1920s and early 1930s meant to take up arms against the concept of a house as isolated from the social processes taking place beyond its walls. It analyzes this undertaking as an attempt to design a physical space open to the spontaneous and self-governed life of the undivided utopian collective.
