The Commission Internationale des Études Historiques Slaves (CIEHS) in the Framework of the World Organization of Historical Sciences (CISH)

Sat, December 8, 8:00 to 9:45am, Boston Marriott Copley Place, Floor: 3rd, Tufts

Abstract

The CIEHS was founded in 1952 in reaction to the absence of historians from socialist coun-tries at the first post-WWII World Congress of Historical Sciences in order to ensure the future participation of colleagues from behind the Iron Curtain. The paper is devoted to questioning how the first ever created affiliated organization within the CISH was able to influence con-gress programs and to promote a continued West-East-cooperation of specialists in Slavic studies under the conditions of the Cold War. A closer look is given to publications the Com-mission produced before and after 1990.
