Abstract

Following the dissolution of the International Commission for the History of Mankind, UNESCO adopted a programme of regional cultural studies in 1970 to promote the work of scholars from within regions. In 1976, the International Association for the Study and Dissemination of Slav Cultures (IASDSC) was established upon the initiative of scholars from socialist countries. With funds provided by UNESCO, the association published a bulletin in Russian with translations in French and English as well as a book series on “Eminent Personalities of Slav Cultures”. This paper analyzes the more than ten international conferences and takes a look at the unrealised eight-volume “Cultural History of the Slavs” focusing on entanglements, exchanges, and transfers by positioning Slav cultures in the world.
