Abstract

In 1961, Vladimir Semichastny became the second "non-professional" chairman of the KGB (after Alexander Shelepin) in the history of the Soviet Union. In his testimony, he expressed his point-of-view concerning the role of "professional chekists" in Soviet politics and the consequences of this role in post-Soviet Russia. The paper will present a forthcoming book about Semichastny.
