Brief Description

The release of archival materials in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and in other countries has greatly enriched the historiography of the upheavals of 1989 in the former Soviet bloc. All of the scholars on this panel have done path-breaking work on the analysis of those events, and the 30th anniversary in 2019 makes it a worthwhile time to look back and reappraise the momentous events of that year.
