The paper will discuss Chekhov’s legacy in the 21st century and the growing popularity of his fiction and drama among psychiatrists, internists, theater directors, and literary critics concerned with the role of narrative approaches in contemporary medicine as well as with applicability of medical approaches to the interpretation of literature. The paper will examine those aspects of Chekhov’s fiction and biography that make possible such readings and appropriations.
