The Use of Traditional Values in Mobilizing Pro-War Support among Women in the Republic of Chuvashia

Abstract

How does the government of the Republic of Chuvashia manage to secure support for the ongoing war among women? I look at the changes in the use of the Russian narrative of traditional values and the adaption of the Chuvash customs in this governmental effort. The research method is the discourse analysis of official mass media of the Republic of Chuvashia both in Russian and Chuvash. I argue that the changes in the official narrative of traditional values reflect the growth of grievances among the female population of the Republic.
