In the late 1960’s and the early 1970’s American businessmen demonstrated their interest in the U.S.-Soviet economic cooperation. Willing to see the Soviet Union themselves, they contacted Amerikanists (Soviet experts in American studies) who organized for them trip inside the USSR. Americans visited industrial plants and factories and met with high-rank Soviet officials. In their turn, Soviet experts found American business approaches and experience to be very useful for huge economic reforms that took place in the USSR. This paper explores both American businessmen’s intentions in economic development of the Soviet Union and Soviet perception of their advices.
