This paper focuses on the case of Uzbekistani women-architects of post-1950s period to show the complexity of the Soviet-style liberation efforts along gender lines. It argues that the multinational Soviet Uzbekistan was a crucial laboratory for elevating the visibility of women within the architectural sphere, that contributed to the global architectural modernity. Tulkinoi Qodirova will be my main protagonists and I use secondary and archival documents, as well as oral interviews.
