This study investigates authoritarian resilience specifically focusing on its regional dimension and assuming that in large multilevel states the country’s resilience is rooted in the capacity of regional elites to respond to various shocks and crises. I argue that a high level of cohesion among subnational elites plays a crucial role in the ability of the national regime to withstand challenges and respond to crises. I demonstrate this on the example of the two Russian regions.
