This paper investigates the extent to which Sil’vanova and Malisova’s "Summer in a Pioneer Tie" conforms to the constraints of the transnational genre of yaoi or boy love. The author argues that the book only partially complies to these generic conventions, creating a nostalgic depiction of the late Soviet era as a bastion of male intimacy.
