A 'Bright Future' for Rural Aria: Political Education and the Idea of Progress for Vologda's Village

Sun, November 24, 10:00 to 11:45am EST (10:00 to 11:45am EST), Boston Marriott Copley Place, Floor: 4th Floor, Vineyard

Abstract

The presentation will focus on the concept of progress in the Vologda region's rural districts. The Vologda region, which was one of the most underprivileged agricultural areas of the Russian Non-Black Earth Region in the 1960s and 1970s, was included in the central government's plans as a region undergoing major restructuring. It will show, what kind of view on socialist progress dominated in rural areas and how regional political education programs addressed the future while keeping the Vologda village's agricultural heritage in mind
