The paper considers the artistic world of F. Gorenstein’s novella “Winter 1953” in comparison with the iconic story by A. Solzhenitsyn. Gorenstein’s novella is interpreted as a kind of opposition to Solzhenitsyn. As a result of the comparative analysis, the main concept of the author is revealed – the concept of the illusion of freedom and the hope for possible liberation.
