Abstract

As research on the Czechoslovak opposition has largely focused on a few prominent personalities at home and in exile, many participants in the struggle against Communism remain largely unknown to wider audiences despite their meritorious deeds. Jiří Pallas initially expressed his dissent by organizing music concerts through an independent initiative known as Šafrán. After joining Charter 77 and being exiled to Sweden in 1978, Pallas founded the recording company Šafrán 78, whose aim was to disseminate the work of proscribed Czech musicians. This paper sheds light on Pallas's on Pallas's admirable accomplishments, which involved considerable effort.
