Abstract

Peter Viazemsky was an exceptionally quick-witted interlocutor and faithful correspondent. In his letters to his wife Vera, written with an admirable frequency, he oftentimes addresses such questions as the importance of education for children and adults, freedom, (in)justices, ordeals, human rights, etc. In my presentation, I will analyze Viazemsky’s correspondence of 1824–1830 with his wife and show how the form and content of his letters influenced the epistolary style of the female members of his family, including Viazemsky's daughters and nieces, his sister, his sister-in-law, and, of course, Vera herself.
