'The Defense' as a Psychoanalytic Film

Abstract

Although the foreword to the Defense contains one of Nabokov's habitual disparagements of psychoanalysis, this novel probably comes closer than any of his other works to reproducing standard psychoanalytic cliches. This paper explores why and how such a thing could happen.
