Making Sense of Russian-and-Soviet Mixed Legacies: The Decolonial Drive and the Search of an Alternative Modernity in the Caucasus

Abstract

The paper will use the material from Armenia and Georgia, with relevant parallels from other former Soviet regions, to show how today’s political and cultural actors relate themselves to their imperial historical past; how the Russian and Soviet legacies are mixed and/or distinguished in discourses and practices; and how today’s social and cultural actors are experimenting in finding alternative forms of development.
