In Event: Different Faces of Liberation in Polish Cinema: Between Politics, Religion, and Patriarchy
One of the distinguishing features appearing in Geert Hofstede's cultural dimensions theory is the division of different cultures into male and female (masculinity vs. femininity - in the newer version of the reports, this culture dimension was changed to Motivation towards Achievement and Success). In the period after the political transformation, Poland began to transform from a highly masculinized culture into a culture with increasingly visible feminist elements. In my study, I would like to indicate to what extent this change was reflected in Polish popular cinema. The starting point for the research will be statistical data covering the most popular Polish films from 1980-2019 and indicating the ongoing changes. Based on lists of the creators of films and the main acting roles, the study will try to check how the gender roles portrayed in Polish popular cinema have changed and whether there has actually been a visible change in the perception of masculinity and femininity.
