An urban environment is a complex organism that reflects the interplay between spatial and social dimensions, historical trajectories, and human aspirations. The City of Most in Czechia, with its rich legacy of urban resettlement due to brown coal mining, stands at the intersection of these multifaceted dimensions. In 1975, Czechoslovak art historian Jiří Ševčík and architects Jan and Ivana Benda used Kevin Lynch’s mental mapping methodology to document how the resettled inhabitants perceived their newly built environment. This paper discusses the contrasting Image of Most from the memory of the inhabitants who had the opportunity to live in the old and new versions of the city.
