Abstract

It is widely known that Mazepa received his education in Europe. But there is a widespread misconception that he was sent there to study by the Polish king. How did Mazepa actually went to study? Mazepa discovered Holland almost fifty years earlier than Peter the Great. Italy and France - youthful impressions of these countries, how did they influence Hetman-Mazepa?
