This paper will focus on Milica Stojadinovic-Srpkinja, a 19th century Serbian poet living in the village of Vrdnik under the control of Austria-Hungary, to examine the experiences and lives of women in such shifting times in Serbia’s history. Through this, the paper will examine how women negotiated power dynamics, challenged norms, and forged networks of support and solidarity. It will take an intersectional approach to look at how gender, ethnicity, and class influenced experiences, perspectives, and opportunities of women.
