The Russian Book Publishing Industry and Its Role in Creating a Negative Image of Ukraine

Abstract

This research-in-progress aims to accumulate statistical data and record the main trends in the Russian publishing industry and its role in vilifying its chosen nemesis, Ukraine and Ukrainians, from the early 2000s up to the beginning of the full-scale invasion in 2022. A large-scale study not only considers the industry's output and cumulative print runs, but also investigates the target audiences, the dynamics of thematic changes and interrogates omissions in representation.
