Abstract

What impact should public school construction, as the house of knowledge, education, and reason, achieve? Since the 18th century, with increasing importance for the Austrian state, school construction between 1900 and today has reacted to humanitarian and socially critical situations. Reforms established normative building regulations and pedagogical reorientations created innovative developments, each of which gave school buildings a different "guise".
