Nuclear Tests and Crying Land in Rollan Seysenbayev’s 'The Day When the World Collapsed'

Sat, November 23, 10:00 to 11:45am EST (10:00 to 11:45am EST), Boston Marriott Copley Place, Floor: 4th Floor, Nantucket

Abstract

This paper is looking at how Rollan Seisenbayev, in his short story “The Day When the World Collapsed,” creates an empathetic ecocritical narration that unites the animate world in the wake of the imminent nuclear threat. The paper examines how through anthropomorphization of the earth, Seisenbayev attributes more agency to it and challenges human intervention in the natural world.
