Existential Threat of Modern Technologies in Tarkovsky’s 'Solaris' and 'The Sacrifice'

Abstract

In this paper, Tarkovsky’s Solaris and The Sacrifice will be situated within cinematic philosophy, its main approaches and its main authors. An existential threat of modern technologies – nuclear in The Sacrifice, AI in Solaris – is discussed; computational methods are applied as an exercise in cinemetrics, while analyzing these films.
