Thu, November 21, 2:00 to 3:45pm EST (2:00 to 3:45pm EST), Boston Marriott Copley Place, Floor: 5th Floor, New Hampshire

Abstract

The Central Asian region has historically been regarded as a key area within Russia's sphere of influence, often referred to as Russia's "backyard." This perception has deep roots in the historical ties between Central Asia and Russia, especially during the Soviet era when the region was an integral part of the Soviet Union. However, the relationship has faced challenges in recent times, particularly in the context of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which has tested the strength and resilience of the ties between Central Asian countries and Russia.
This study aims to explore the dimensions of the relationship between Central Asian nations and Russia. To systematically analyze the contemporary dependence of Central Asian countries on Russia, the paper employs a multidimensional index. This approach considers various factors, providing a nuanced understanding of the nature and extent of economic interdependence. The study captures the complexity of the economic relationship between Central Asia and Russia, taking into account not only historical ties but also contemporary economic dynamics and dependencies. The findings of this research can contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of the economic landscape in Central Asia and its connections with Russia.
