This paper will analyze the Russian occupation of Trabzon, situated on the eastern Black Sea borderland of the late Ottoman Empire, between 1916 and 1917, focusing on the perspective of Russian scientists. The main inquiry revolves around their perception of the newly occupied territory, a significant portion of whose population comprised Orthodox Greeks, and how the Russian vision of the region's history clashed with that of the local Orthodox Greek communities of Trabzon.
