Mentoring Fulbright Teaching Assistants

Abstract

Irina Dubinina will discuss responsibilities involved in hosting Foreign Language Teaching Assistants on the Fulbright FLTA program and highlight best practices that make hosting FLTAs a successful experience. Despite the current geopolitical context, the FLTA program continues to work in Russia. Hosting institutions can benefit greatly from the work of FLTAs who serve as cultural ambassadors, teaching assistants or instructors of record. However, FLTAs' supervisors must engage in active mentorship, both culturally and pedagogically, to maximize the program's benefit for the hosting organization as well as for the visiting FLTA.
