Re-Imagining the ESG Agenda in Russia after February 2022

Abstract

In Russia, the ESG (Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance) movement had been gaining popularity among corporations since the late 2010s and was mainly motivated by the opportunity of investments from Western countries. This research explores how ESG initiatives altered and were re-imagined by the practitioners in Russia after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the introduction of severe sanctions, and the inability to get investments from Western countries.
