Abstract

In my paper, I would like to focus on the use of multilingual parallel corpus in the linguistic analysis of a specific category of English, Slovak, Czech and Polish deverbal adjectives, which convey the notion of possibility/potentiality. These adjectives are characterized by high productivity and semantic compositionality, especially in the Slovak and Czech language. Their regular meaning is clearly expressed by specialized suffixes. The earlier analyses show the number of Polish -alny adjectives recorded in the dictionaries is smaller than Slovak, Czech and English adjectives. That is why in the Polish language these words have different equivalents. The selected adjectives are analyzed based on the Czech multilingual parallel corpus Intercorp to show the innovative possibilities or limits of the parallel corpus.
