Abstract

This paper focuses on matters of budget, loans, and sovereign debt in post-Ottoman successor states. It traces the division and distribution of the Ottoman public debt during a long negotiation process before and after the Treaty of Lausanne. By exploring the materials from the Ottoman Public Debt Administration (OPDA), the paper puts into perspective the reality of change in the financial structures of the newly formed Balkan nation-states.
