Putinism and the Fascist Concept of Historical Time

Thu, November 21, 2:00 to 3:45pm EST (2:00 to 3:45pm EST), Boston Marriott Copley Place, Floor: 3rd Floor, Dartmouth

Abstract

One objection to comparing Putin's regime with the fascism of the early 20th century is their differene visions of the future. Unlike classical fascism, in Putin’s propaganda we do not find a significant image of the future. By analyzing representations of time in Putin’s ideology, I will argue that this rejection of the future is, in fact, distinctive of the contemporary regime of temporality in "late capitalism" more broadly and is endemic of the new fascist regimes of our era.
