Putinism as Affect: The Civilizational Narrative and Meta-Modern Identity Politics

Abstract

A defining feature of contemporary global identity politics is the normalization of the civilizational narrative, which casts doubt on the universality of the liberal world order and affirms the possibility of illiberal cultural and political subjectivities. I my presentation I will focus on the cultural mediation of ‘civilizational Putinism’ through the deliberate use of affect by analyzing different segments of contemporary Russian visual culture (films, TV series, and music videos).
