Sasha Kapadya: Non-Binary Russian-Speaking Stand-Up Comedian

Abstract

Since coming out as non-binary in 2022, Sasha Kapadya has been the butt of homophobic jokes in the stand-up community. In our talk, I will show how this experience has influenced her stand-up style. Before coming out, she presented a hyper-masculine image. Since coming out, she says she is more comfortable with herself. I will analyze how the coming out experience shapes her performances and the audience's reactions to them.
