How Russians View Russia’s Place in the World

Thu, November 21, 4:00 to 5:45pm EST (4:00 to 5:45pm EST), Boston Marriott Copley Place, Floor: 4th Floor, Grand Ballroom Salon F

Abstract

The Russian population seems to have adjusted to a life at war and does not seem too affected by the sanctions, at least not personally. But do all Russians like the direction of their country’s foreign policy? Does the activist foreign policy that President Putin has set forth align with their personal preferences or do they think the war has endangered Russia’s international status/reputation? Joint Chicago Council-Levada Center surveys of the Russian population will help to examine public support for an expanded Russian role in world politics and the acceptable tradeoffs necessary to pursue it.
