'Beauty is Your Duty?': Appearance of Servicewomen in Ukrainian Media Discourse

Abstract

The paper problematizes the impact of the war on the gender regimes in Ukraine. It explores to which extent the Ukrainian state and media act as instruments of perpetuating and maintaining the traditional gender hierarchies, and how Russia’s large-scale invasion has affected the media discourse about Ukrainian female soldiers.
